Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko drew correlations with Muhammad Ali in the wake of holding his WBO super-featherweight title with a seventh-round stoppage of challenger Miguel Marriaga.
It was a third fruitful title resistance for the 29-year-old, in what was recently his tenth expert battle.
Twofold Olympic gold medallist Lomachenko ruled the Colombian from the opening round in Los Angeles.
“I never observed anything like this. He’s fantastic,” said promoter Bob Arum.
“Not exclusively does he have the learning, he has the range of abilities that I’ve never observed. Quick, reflexes, everything and he truly engages. Who else did that? Muhammad Ali,” he told ESPN.
Lomachenko has officially won world titles at two weights – he won the WBO featherweight title in just his third expert battle in 2014.
He is viewed as apparently the best novice boxer of his era, winning 396 of his 397 unpaid battles
